HISTORY of the gite "Le Crucifix"

Le Crucifix got its name through the farmer that once owned the land.
In keeping with the Catholic tradition in many parts of Europe he placed a Crucifix either by the roadside or actually on the land.

It has long since gone but evidence is still visable today by the Crucifixes either end of the road in which the Gite is situated.

MANAGEMENT

"Le Crucifix" is owned privately by James Sewell and Keith Lamb who bought it from the previous owner in November 2007.

The floodlit Swimming Pool was installed at the same time and commissioned for use the following month.

The Grassed Terrace surrounding the pool was laid in March 2008.

The Barbeque, a permanent feature built in stone, stands to one side of the Swimming Pool.

The Gite though modern in design, is in keeping with other dwellings in the area.

The accommodation consists of a Master Bedroom with a double and a single bed, a 2nd Bedroom with twin beds, a lounge with access to the balcony overlooking the pool, a dining room, a kitchen. A shower room with toilet & hand basin and a separate toilet with hand basin completes the layout.

Mr Lamb deals with the ever demanding needs of the garden and the grounds and he plans to leave some of the two acre garden furthest away from the Gite to grow wild to encourage the many species of wild orchids that grow there, and elsewhere in the garden.

Mr Sewell’s job is to make sure Le Crucifix is clean & tidy on your arrival and will maintain the swimming pool during your stay.

The owner’s house is situated ½ mile away and can be contacted by telephone or mobile should there be an emergency.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

We prefer that bookings for Le Crucifix run from Saturday - Saturday, however depending on the time of the season a ‘shorter break’ type of holiday may be possible.

The Gite will be available for occupation after 4pm on the day of arrival.

We respectfully request that you vacate Le Crucifix by 10 am on the day of departure, please.

It would be helpful if you would furnish us with details of your estimated time of arrival in order that Mr Sewell will be at Le Crucifix to greet you.

BEDDING & LINEN

Main Bedroom 5ft Double Bed with 4 pillows & a duvet.

3ft Single Bed with 2 pillows & a duvet.

Second Bedroom 2 x 3ft Single Beds with two pillows each & a duvet each.

We provide bed linen for all our guests so there is no need to worry about making beds up on arrival.

We will supply enough towels for use in the Gite and ask that these are washed during your stay should the need arise.

The one item we ask you to supply are large towels for use at the Swimming Pool.

KITCHEN

The Gite has a fully equipped kitchen.

There is a gas cooker; electric toaster; coffee maker; kettle; microwave oven; fridge/freezer; washing machine; dishwasher; various pots & pans; glassware; mugs; kitchen utensils and cutlery.

The kitchen, has recently been redecorated to enhance the beautiful blue glassware and pottery left by the previous owner. The colours are similar to those found in Monet’s kitchen at Giverny ( Loire ).

SWIMMING POOL

The pool complete with an automatic sterilisation system (salt water) is provided exclusively for your own use.

The structure of the pool caters for everyone.

1 st Stage is the ‘shallow end’ with a small step from the pool’s edge to the Roman Step which is deep enough for youngsters to splash around in, under supervision!

2 nd Stage is the steep ledge leading from the Roman Step into the pool proper - ideal for the ‘dip’ to cool off!

3 rd Stage is the ‘deep end’ which is deep enough to dive into from the side of the pool.

Even if you fancy a late night swim the pool is floodlit for your continued enjoyment!

ENTERTAINMENT

We provide for your entertainment a television which receives all the Free to Air Satellite stations, a video player and a DVD player, together with a radio and C/D cassette player.

As music, films etc. are of a personal taste we respectively invite you to supply your own C/D's, DVD's, Videos & Cassettes.

There are plenty of books, board games, playing cards & jigsaws available in the Gite’s bookcase.

However we encourage ‘younger’ guests to bring their own books and toys.

HEATING

For guests taking an early or a late holiday the evenings can get a little chilly and electric wall heaters and a gas fire in the lounge are provided for your comfort.

LAUNDRY

Le Crucifix has an automatic washing machine with drying facilities on a rotary clothes line situated unobtrusively in the grounds.

There is also an iron, ironing board and a clothes airier at your disposal.
