The Region MARKETS A visit to France is incomplete until you have tried a least one trip to a French Market. From Cheeses (French, Dutch & English!), Wine, Foie Gras, Fruit (especially strawberries are to die for!), Vegetables, Books, Jewellery & Bric-a-Brac. These are social occasions in the community in which they are situated and tend to be very busy in the height of the season. However it is a sure way to get to know the ‘locals’. RESTAURANTS
There are quite a few restaurants in the area and in easy reach by car. Whether you are celebrating a Special Occasion or watching the world go by all the restaurants in the area provide a very good service and prices to suit all budgets. The Gite proprietors have tried a few eating establishments and have a list to hand should you wish to try one or two. CLIMATE As the whole area of the Aquitaine region is to the north of the Pyrenees so the weather here is moist and comfortable. Temperatures are more or less 10°C higher than the UK, consequently there is buildup of heat which is soon dissipated by thunderstorms which in most cases rumble around at night. LOCAL AMENITIES There are two villages within 10 minutes of "Le Crucifix" gite - St Pompon & Daglan which cater for your everyday needs. Both locations have a Boulangerie, Boucherie, Convenience Store (superette) and the Bureau la Poste. St Pompon has a Pharmacie which also has a section for pets and their needs. Daglan has a Salon de Coiffure and a Tourist Information Centre.
